Two teams of amateur antique collectors meet at an antiques fair to compete to make the largest profit from a three hundred pound budget. The teams receive some guidance from experts, who recommend which items are likely to make the largest profits. The teams are split into red and blue, and the contestants are allowed to keep any profit that they make at auction. Once the contestants have done the shopping for their own items, the experts then take any leftover money and go shopping for more antiques. Any goods purchased by the experts are 'bonus buys'. The teams then have to decide whether or not to take these items to auction, as they are not guaranteed to make profit. The show has been broadcasting since March 2000, and was awarded Most Popular Daytime Programme in 2002, and Best Lifestyle Show in 2003. Today in the Repair Shop, Jay Blades and the team bring four treasured family heirlooms, and the memories they hold, back to life. First in to see mechanical expert Steve Fletcher is Suzanne Richeux from London. She brings an enchanting trinket belonging to her late mother, who was a world-famous trapeze artist. The decorative cage contains ornamental birds that, when wound up, would sing and flutter. Suzanne remembers being mesmerized by it when her mother wound it for her and her sister at bed time most evenings. Sadly, the birds have not uttered a peep for over twenty years and look very shabby. Steve dismantles the birds from their perch, cleans and refurbishes the mechanism. He calls upon the talents of David Burville, whose experience in renovating organs means he can recreate the miniature bellows that generate the sweet birdsong. Finally they replace the little birds missing colourful plumes, much to the delight of Suzanne. Next, four more winged creatures are carried carefully to the Repair Shop by church wardens Brian Tidswell and David Dickinson from Lincolnshire. They're hoping wood restorer Will Kirk can work a miracle. The wooden angels were carved by Belgian refugees during the First World War and gifted to the church, as thanks for welcoming them into the community. They are cherished by the congregation but have seen better days, with missing features and faded paint. Will soon makes the exciting discovery that the angels were originally painted with gold leaf and works tirelessly removing the layers of old paint, restoring the celestial gold with transformative results. Tony and Jenny Barrett have brought along a much cherished keepsake, which they are hoping Dominic Chinea will be able to restore. They received the Georgian peat bucket as a wedding present forty years ago and it has served them well. For them this item represents many happy times together but years of use has left it unstable and no longer fit for purpose. The wooden slats are held together with two brass bands, rather like a barrel. Brenton is on hand to fix the broken bands, while Dom carefully removes centuries of ash and grime from the 200 year wood before assembling it and returning it fireside ready. Finally Clare Jackman from Pulborough brings a century old leather case that served her great aunt, who was a trailblazing female surgeon in the 1930s. Suzie Fletcher rolls up her sleeves and restores it back to health.
It's The Finals of MasterChef 2020. Over the past seven weeks, 60 of the country's very best amateur cooks have been whittled down to just four. Each talented contestant has a single goal : to lift the coveted MasterChef Champion trophy at the end of this week. This week, the finalists face some incredible challenges that test their ambition, creativity, skill and perseverance to the max as they go all out to impress some of the world's greatest chefs. They must raise their cooking to a level they never dreamed possible. Tonight, the final four hopefuls embark on a culinary adventure of a lifetime on the island of Mauritius, facing three extraordinary challenges that they will remember for the rest of their lives. The first challenge takes place in the town of Mahebourg, one of the island's earliest established fishing ports. Split into teams of two, each pair will be tasked with cooking two traditional Mauritian street food dishes for 15 local fishermen. To help the finalists make sense of this unique multicultural fusion cuisine, they will be mentored by Chef Moroogun Coopen, President of the Mauritius Chefs Association and one of the island's best known chefs. Next, the amateurs travel to the island's capital, Port Louis, where they have the honour of working at Labourdonnais : a hotel famed for being at the forefront of Mauritian gastronomy : run by Executive Chef, Peeroo Nizam. Chef Nizam travelled the world from France to India to develop a fusion style that has taken Mauritian cuisine to the next level. The four contestants will be working during a busy lunch service at Labourdonnais and are given three hours to each prepare and cook a dish from Chef Nizam's menu. Finally, the finalists face the daunting challenge of creating an exceptional dinner for mentors Chef Coopen and Chef Nizam, as well as some of the leading figures in Mauritius' food and cultural community. Inspired by their culinary adventure and showcasing the skills they have developed through their entire MasterChef journey, the finalists' dishes must be truly exceptional for them to stand out and prove they have what it takes to be crowned MasterChef Champion 2020
